Five IT trends to expect over the next half decade: Social Media- Social Business and Enterprise 2.0- Part 2

Besides mobile phones, social media has the broadest reach of any other communication device. Social networks and media outlets are used for networking, communication, and collaboration. Expect large growth in social media within the upcoming year. Leading organizations are becoming social enterprises. Companies must start thinking strategically about social media and use it as a primary communication channel.  

Companies are shy to adopt social media because it is not an IT competency. In most cases, the IT department finds the human interaction portion of social media challenging. It is difficult for IT to see it as more than an application.  

ZDNet’s suggestion: Find the right social media strategy to help your company engage online. “Engage” is the key word. Leadership inside the company and top representatives outside the company should equally engage in social media channels. Answer the question: What changes do you want to see in your company’s social media?  

Has your company found social media beneficial? In what ways? Do you have a preferred social media channel (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Foursquare)?
